The MIL design methodology is iterative and spiral. Every time around, you achieve deeper understanding and higher quality results.
Our process provides a reliable way for individuals and groups to move from talking about innovation to actually doing it. We combine a design-based methodology with tools for effective interaction providing our clients with a complete operating system that allows them to innovate. Efficiently. Effectively.
Inquire: Inquiry is about understanding the challenge we’re addressing from multiple viewpoints so that we can accurately interpret context and get meaningful results.
Identify: In this step we take what we learned in inquiry and craft a design challenge beginning with “How might we…”. We keep refining our challenge until it allows us to serve the greatest number of people with the greatest number of potential solutions.
Brainstorm: Brainstorming is about identifying possibilities. No idea is to crazy. No question is to simple. Often the wild ideas and obvious questions lead to the most valuable insights and the most evolutionary results.
Prototype: In this step we make our ideas tangible. We experiment and build new things in order to learn from what we make.
Test: This is where we try out what we’ve built. We engage the people for whom we’re designing to explore and let us know what works, what doesn’t and what would make it better.
Respond: Here, we stop to reflect on where we are and choose where we want to go next. We’ve spent a lot of time up to this point doing things. Now our job is to step back and gain perspective so we can take our work to the next level.
